Metta in Motion Workshop
Saturday, October 30, 2010
2:30 - 5:00 pm @ Pure Prana Yoga Studio

“All experience is preceded by mind,
            Led by mind,
            Made by mind,
Speak or act with a peaceful mind,
            And happiness follows
Like a never-departing shadow.”

Western science is proving more and more these insightful words from the “Dhammapada” – our health and well-being are dependant upon clarity and peacefulness in the mind.

Yet, our minds are frequently tormented with negative emotions and counter-productive thought patterns.  Western medicine offers drugs (prescription or otherwise) that may quiet our unhealthy inner dialog, but does little to offer us actual skills to deal with it.

Metta, or loving kindness, is the first of a series of meditation practices offered by the Buddha to cultivate the four qualities of love: metta (loving kindness), karuna (compassion), mudita (sympathetic joy)and upeksa (equanimity).  Practicing loving-kindness (metta bhavana) begins a process that, when mature, leads to a more accepting, kindly, and caring relationship towards one’s self and others.

The journey starts with loving acceptance of one’s self.  In this workshop, we’ll practice yoga postures that relax and release the neck, shoulders, upper back and heart center to build courage and to prepare the body for receiving and offering love and compassion.  Asana practice will be followed by guided metta meditation.

This workshop is open to all levels.

Workshop - Self-Awakening Yoga - TBA
The "movement inquiries" of Self-Awakening Yoga take yoga back to its roots by guiding practitioners to reconnect to their prana (the body's innate wisdom). Appropriate for all levels, the organic movements of this practice help to cultivate an intuition about one's physical, emotional and intellectual bodies.

This workshop is based on the methodology developed by Don Stapleton of the Nosara Yoga Institute. Jennifer received her Self-Awakening Yoga certification in May 2008 with Don at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health.

Workshop - Ashtanga Basics Series - TBA
Transmitted by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Ashtanga Yoga is a vigorous and fluid form of yoga that emphasizes synchronizing the breath with movement. As the foundation for vinyasa-style yoga, Ashtanga generates intense heat in order to detoxify and purify the body, all the while calming the mind.

Open to all levels, this workshop will explore the Ashtanga primary series, covering each pose in-depth including modifications for your body and level of practice. Integral to Ashtanga practice, we will also cover tristhana: the union of posture, breath, and gaze.
