Jennifer was drawn to the transformative power of yoga over 10 years ago when she wandered into a class at her local health club. In spite of the frenetic gym setting, she immediately noticed that there is just something different about yoga – she felt more calm, relaxed and even radiant.
In 2004 Jennifer stepped onto the path of a yoga educator, graduating from the Holistic Yoga Teacher Training Program at Pure Prana Yoga Studio in Alexandria, VA, receiving her Yoga Alliance 200-hour level certification. Her initial intention was to deepen her own understanding of yoga, however it quickly became clear that yoga is a gift to be shared. Jennifer has been enthusiastically offering her joyful, interdisciplinary style of yoga to a variety of students ever since.
In 2005 Jennifer moved to the Netherlands with her husband, where she began studying Ashtanga Yoga, and in 2007 she completed a teacher training program with Manju Jois in Berlin. Jennifer returned to the Washington, DC area in Fall 2007 with a renewed passion for teaching yoga, and is now teaching at locations in the metro area.
Jennifer completed her 500 Hour Professional Certification with Don and Amba Stapleton at the Nosara Yoga Institute in 2008, qualifying her for the 500 hour designation with Yoga Alliance. She is also certified to offer Pranassage, a creative synthesis of yoga and bodywork that produces deep relaxation. A bit of a workshop junkie, Jennifer has studied with a variety of master teachers including: Beryl Bender Birch, Cyndi Lee, Doug Swenson, Doug Keller, Ana Forest, and Frank Jude Boccio.
Prior to becoming a yoga teacher, Jennifer managed the online communications department at a large, DC-based, environmental non-profit. She knows first hand the positive impact that yoga, a seemingly simple practice, can have on busy, professional lives. She believes that finding the balance between action and surrender in asana practice opens a gateway to finding equanimity in day-to-day interactions with loved ones and coworkers.
Jennifer enjoys blending different styles of yoga, making each of her classes a unique experience. Her primary focus is helping her students to reconnect to the body’s inherent wisdom and find deeper awareness through meditation-in-motion and by focusing on the breath. Jennifer is also keenly interested in yoga's ability to turn on the body's "relaxation response," allowing one to heal from the intense wear and tear that stress and anxiety wreak on the body. She encourages her students to be open to the transfomative and healing qualities of asana, pranayama and meditation as essential ingredients to modern living. Jennifer’s classes are flowy, fun, challenging, and incorporate tools to take yoga off the mat.
When not on her mat, Jennifer offers graphic design and online communications consulting services to small businesses, companies, and non-profits that work to support a healthy planet and improve the quality of life for people everywhere. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations and French from Tulane University in New Orleans.
